Multiplication Facts Cards – Monsters

These Monsters Multiplication Facts Cards are great for learning and practising number facts through hands on activities and games.

Features:

* Multiplication facts sets from x2 up to x 10, plus square numbers.

* Includes cards containing the questions and cards containing the answers.

Ideas for Use:

* Use with Multiplication Grouping Mats or arrays for children to build the physical representation of the number fact in order to help bridge the understanding of repeated equal groups and the written equation.

* Hide cards around the room for a hunt. Students solve the questions as they find them. (Have materials available for students to make groups/arrays if needed).

* Hide in a sensory bin for students solve as they find them. (Have materials available for students to make groups/arrays if needed).

* Use answer cards for skip counting.

* Knock down/target games. Attach the multiplication facts cards to objects that can be knocked down, eg. Stacking cups, ten pin bowling pins, magnetic tiles. Children use items eg. a small bean bag or a soft ball to knock them down. They solve the ones they knocked down and collect them. If you have the appropriate space and if it’s safe, you could also use items such as a water gun (outdoors) or remote control car to knock down the objects. (Have materials available for students to make groups/arrays if needed).

* Tossing into containers. Attach cards onto a series of plastic bowls/buckets or in the holes on a muffin baking tray. Children then toss small objects (eg. Ping pong balls, small beanbags, large pom poms etc) into the containers. If they get it in they solve the question on that container and collect it. Have concrete materials available for students to make groups of objects to solve it if needed.

* Card games such as “Memory”, “Snap” or “Go Fish”. (Match the facts with their answers).

* Sticky Hand Game. Lay the cards either face up or face down (whatever you prefer) and the children try to slap the cards with the sticky hand and retrieve them. They solve and keep the words they retrieve with the sticky hand.

* Path games. Make a path in the style of a track or stepping stones. You could just place the question cards on the floor in a line with enough space to step between them, or you could make a more elaborate path. Ideas for making the track include using chalk, natural materials if outdoors, skipping ropes, ribbon, flat sturdy cushions, non slip mats etc. (always consider safety, risk and what is right for the children in your setting). Place multiplication facts cards along the path for children to read as they move along the path in order to get to the end. Alternatively, you could make a “small world” path to move a toy along, solving the questions as they go. Magnetic tiles work really well for this.
